Fr William will conduct a Rite of Sending by which the parish, and the Church at large, sends them to Bishop Mark for the Rite of Election at Shrewsbury Cathedral on the 22 February. We will pray for Adam and Charlotte especially in the Rite next Sunday, in the meantime please continue to remember them in your personal prayers. Thank you.

ST COLUMBA’S COFFEE ROTA – The 2026 tea and coffee rota is on the noticeboard in St Columba’s Hall. We need someone to volunteer every Sunday after 11:00 Mass, so if you would like to raise money for your good cause, please put your name and details on the sheet and let Margaret Curtis know on 01244 318424 or marg.curtis@outlook.com
08 Feb – Sue McCarthy, SVP
15 Feb – Chris & Elizabeth, parish
22 Feb – volunteers please

PROPOSED TEA AND COFFEE PRICE RISE – It is proposed that in future the price of teas and coffees served in The St Columba’s Church Hall each Sunday should be raised from 50p to £1 a mug.  This rise in price would help volunteers to raise more money for their chosen charity and might encourage more groups to volunteer in future.

The current pricing has not changed for many years and increasing the price would hopefully see more people coming forward in the future, as we are always short of volunteers. We are therefore asking people if they support this proposal or not.  If you are in favour of this proposal, please sign the sheet in the hall.

YOUTH GROUP – The next youth group will be this Monday 9 February, 7pm to 8.30pm in St Columba’s hall. As Lent is quickly approaching, we will be designing Easter cards for the SVP to take to parishioners they visit, making and eating pancakes, playing table tennis and other fun things. All young parishioners, school year 5, or older are very welcome and encouraged to come along.

ST. WERBURGH’S & ST. COLUMBA’S SCHOOL – The School Mission Team (SMT) have had the idea to use the arch in our prayer garden as a prayer arch. A school member with an intention they want prayed for, can tie a ribbon around the arch. If anyone has any spare ribbon or coloured string, could you please donate it to this project. The SMT are really excited about seeing the arch become colourful with prayer intentions! Thank you in advance.

PRAYING TOGETHER FOR

  • The residents of Dunham Way, Chirk Close, Tintern Avenue, Cleves Close, Roman Drive, Cavalier Drive & Hadrian Drive.
  • The prayer groups and ecumenical prayer groups.
  • Those who have nobody to pray for them.

POPE’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR JANUARY 2026 – For prayer with the Word of God. Let us pray that praying with the Word of God be nourishment for our lives and a source of hope in our communities, helping us to build a more fraternal and missionary Church.

PRAY WITH THE POPE is a new initiative for 2026 from Pope Leo. He invites the faithful to share in a common moment of quiet prayer each day with him. There is a prayer intention for each month which is printed in the newsletter, as above – The Pope’s Prayer Intentions.

Pope Leo wants us to build a community of prayer throughout the Church. Next Sunday, the third Sunday in ordinary time, was designated by Pope Francis as Sunday of the Word of God. It would be a good time for us to dedicate ourselves to daily prayer that is based on the Word of God as it applies to our own lives.

To join with the Pope, copy these links into your browser and click www.popesprayer.va where you will find the video of Pope Leo praying.  You can find the gospel of each day in the weekday missal or by typing in any of the following links and clicking on them.
