LIVE STREAMING OF MASS – Mass will be streamed at St Columba’s on Sunday 9 November at 11.00a.m.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY – The Children’s Liturgy normally happens at the 11a.m. service at St Columba’s on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. See the parish website under the Family tab.

POPES PRAYER INTENTIONS for November – for the prevention of suicide. Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care, and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of life.

CONFESSIONS – After each weekday mass until 11.30a.m. At the weekend: St Columba’s: from 6.00-6.25p.m. on Saturday. And St Theresa’s; from 4.30-4.55 on Saturday.

WEDDINGS, BAPTISMS AND FUNERALS – Please contact one of the Parish Offices to make your arrangements. 

DECEASED – Please remember in your prayers, Patricia Josephne Jones, Raymond Anthony Harrington and Victor Barber who died recently. Raymond’s funeral is a family funeral. John’s funeral service is at Blacon Crematorium on Wednesday 12 November at 2.40p.m.

HOLY SOULS – If you would like any deceased remembering during the month of November please put their names in an envelope marked HOLY SOULS and place it in the basket in front of the altar.

YOUTH SUNDAY – Young volunteers are needed to welcome, collect and read on Youth Sunday, 23 November. If you are a young parishioner and would like to help on Youth Sunday at St.Columba’s please contact Denise Lusk (01244379742) , or to help at St. Theresa’s, contact Ann McCarthy. Thank you.

CLERGY EDUCATION & TRAINING FUND There will be a retiring collection this weekend, 9 November.

LARGE PRINT NEWSLETTER – A limited number of large print newsletters are now available at the back of both our Churches. See our Welcomers if you need a copy.   

CHURCHES TOHETHER IN UPTON- REMEMBRANCE SERVICE – CTU are holding a Remembrance Service at Holy Ascension Church next Sunday 9 November at 4.30 p.m. 

ACT OF REMEBRANCE – There will be an Act of Remembrance at 11am on Sunday 9 November at the War memorial in Blacon Cemetery and the War memorial in Upton.

PARISH OFFERTORY – Loose Plate: £525.20; Planned Giving:£282.20; Average weekly SO £718.15; Candles: £31.47

ADVENT BOOKLETS – Unfortunately, we did not receive the numbers for the minimum order number for these booklets so we are unable to purchase them for the few people who asked for them.

AUTUMN FAYRE 16 November – Soup and a sandwich or a hot dog £2. Anyone wanting a table/stall or to to share a table to sell their goods please contact Margaret Curtis on 07876061993. There will of course be our usual bottle tombola. Donations of bottles etc are still needed as prizes. Please leave them inside the entrance to St Columba’s and St Theresa’s.

If anyone would like a lift from St Theresa’s to St Columba’s, please put your name on the list at the back of church.

Also the Christmas Party will be on Saturday 13 December.

FIRST SACRAMENTS MEETING – A reminder of the meeting for parents of the children preparing for First Sacraments this school year. It is on Monday 10 November at 7:00 pm. at St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School, Lightfoot St., Hoole, CH2 3AD. It is important that each child is represented, and we look forward to seeing you.

Mary, Joseph and the donkey’s Advent Journey – Can you look after Mary, Joseph and their donkey this Advent? They’re looking for overnight accommodation on their journey to Bethlehem, actually St Theresa’s Crib. They will arrive in time for the Carol Service on Friday 19 December 2025. The hope is that Mary, Joseph (and the donkey) will be handed from home to home around the parish during Advent before being delivered to St Theresa’s on 19 December. Sign-up lists in the church porches.

ST COLUMBA’S COFFEE ROTA – We would like to thank all parishoners who have volunteered their time to help with tea and coffee after the 11:00am Mass.

CTU CANDLELIT ADVENT SERVICE – Sunday 30 Nov 30 at 4.30 p.m. at St. Columba’s, marking the First Sunday in Advent with our fellow Christians. Readings, prayer and well-known hymns with refreshments and social time to follow.

ADVENT PRAYER GROUP – As a legacy of the Jubilee Year, a new parish prayer group will meet during Advent on Tuesdays at 11:00-11.30a.m in the Iona Chapel (Nov 25, Dec 2, 9, 16 & 23). Focus will be on the upcoming Sunday readings with time for personal reflection and shared discussion on their relevance to our daily lives. Contact marilyn.coyle44@gmail.com

ADVENT RETREAT – The Catholic movement Communion and Liberation will hold its Advent Retreat on Saturday, 29 November, at St Columba’s Parish.  All parishioners are invited to take part.The retreat begins with a shared lunch at 12:30 p.m. in the Newman Room, followed by a spiritual lesson, silent reflection, assembly, and Holy Mass in the Iona Chapel. Confession will be available.The retreat will be led by Fr. Mario Toma.  Please register by 23 November via clnorthwest.soc@gmail.com or contact Luca (07853 027638)

CHS NEWS – A group of students from The Catholic High School, Chester, travelled to Rome to celebrate the Jubilee 2025. The young people had the opportunity to visit many churches and landmarks. On the feast of All Saints, the group had the unique opportunity to celebrate Mass with Pope Leo in St. Peter’s Square, where St. John Henry Newman was declared Doctor of the Church.  The students loved every minute of the Jubilee Pilgrimage. A girl in Y9 said that she had an unforgettable time and it will stay with her forever. 

SATURDAY EVENING MASS – ST COLUMBA’S Please do not use the rear entrance when leaving, as it has led to the church being left unlocked overnight. Thank you for your understanding.

BREN’S BREWS – The Bren Brews Café is a venue to provide for people with a learning disability of any age, to gain experience in a workplace to help find a way into paid employment. Find it in the hall behind the United Reform Church on Hoole Road, between 10 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday.

SOUP WITH SOUL – at the Town House, Chester, open Mon- Fri 12pm-2.30pm. £5 for soup and short bread. Choice of 3 soups. This includes £1 to Soul Kitchen. Creating a positive future for those experiencing homelessness and hardship.

FOOD BANK DONATIONS – Urgently Needed – The Food Bank’s is asking for, tinned meat, fish, veg, fruit, tomatoes, spaghetti, puddings, curry sauce, Smash, pasta & sauce, UHT/powdered milk, long-life juice, custard, jams, spreads, and coffee. westcheshirefoodbank.org.uk  for up to date needs. CHESTER THEOLOGICAL SOCIETY LECTURE – Tuesday 18 November 2025, 7:30pm, Hollybank, University of Chester, Liverpool Rd. Speaker will be Dr Peter Atkins, Edinburgh University, topic, The Bible, Ecology, and Rewilding: Engaging Biblical Texts amidst the Ecological Crisis. All welcome, entry fee £5.

ST COLUMBA’S RED MISSION BOX HOLDERS – There will be three Red Mission boxes collections during the year: March, July and November. To have your box emptied, please leave it in the sacristy before the end of November, then pick up your empty, relabelled box from the rear porch.

Fish and Chip Babies, knitting project – This ongoing project is a tremendous success, please see the poster in the front of St Columba’s church for the latest update.
