POPES PRAYER INTENTIONS for November – for the prevention of suicide. Let us pray that those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts might find the support, care, and love they need in their community, and be open to the beauty of life.

CHURCHES TOHETHER IN UPTON- REMEMBRANCE SERVICE – CTU are holding a Remembrance Service at Holy Ascension Church next Sunday 9 November at 4.30 p.m.
ACT OF REMEBRANCE – There will be an Act of Remembrance at 11am on Sunday 9 November at the War memorial in Blacon Cemetery and the War memorial in Upton.

ADVENT BOOKLETS – Unfortunately, we did not receive the numbers for the minimum order number for these booklets so we are unable to purchase them for the few people who asked for them.
AUTUMN FAYRE 16 November – Soup and a sandwich or a hot dog £2. Anyone wanting a table/stall or to to share a table to sell their goods please contact Margaret Curtis on 07876061993. There will of course be our usual bottle tombola. Donations of bottles etc are still needed as prizes. Please leave them inside the entrance to St Columba’s and St Theresa’s.

FIRST SACRAMENTS MEETING – A reminder of the meeting for parents of the children preparing for First Sacraments this school year. It is on Monday 10 November at 7:00 pm. at St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Catholic Primary School, Lightfoot St., Hoole, CH2 3AD. It is important that each child is represented, and we look forward to seeing you.
Mary, Joseph and the donkey’s Advent Journey – Can you look after Mary, Joseph and their donkey this Advent? They’re looking for overnight accommodation on their journey to Bethlehem, actually St Theresa’s Crib. They will arrive in time for the Carol Service on Friday 19 December 2025. The hope is that Mary, Joseph (and the donkey) will be handed from home to home around the parish during Advent before being delivered to St Theresa’s on 19 December. Sign-up lists in the church porches.

CTU CANDLELIT ADVENT SERVICE – Sunday 30 Nov 30 at 4.30 p.m. at St. Columba’s, marking the First Sunday in Advent with our fellow Christians. Readings, prayer and well-known hymns with refreshments and social time to follow.

ADVENT PRAYER GROUP – As a legacy of the Jubilee Year, a new parish prayer group will meet during Advent on Tuesdays at 11:00-11.30a.m in the Iona Chapel (Nov 25, Dec 2, 9, 16 & 23). ADVENT RETREAT – The Catholic movement Communion and Liberation will hold its Advent Retreat on Saturday, 29 November, at St Columba’s Parish. All parishioners are invited to take part.The retreat begins with a shared lunch at 12:30 p.m. in the Newman Room, followed by a spiritual lesson, silent reflection, assembly, and Holy Mass in the Iona Chapel. CHS NEWS – A group of students from The Catholic High School, Chester, travelled to Rome to celebrate the Jubilee 2025. The young people had the opportunity to visit many churches and landmarks. On the feast of All Saints, the group had the unique opportunity to celebrate Mass with Pope Leo in St. Peter’s Square, where St. John Henry Newman was declared Doctor of the Church. The students loved every minute of the Jubilee Pilgrimage. A girl in Y9 said that she had an unforgettable time and it will stay with her forever.

BREN’S BREWS – The Bren Brews Café is a venue to provide for people with a learning disability of any age, to gain experience in a workplace to help find a way into paid employment. Find it in the hall behind the United Reform Church on Hoole Road, between 10 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday.
SOUP WITH SOUL – at the Town House, Chester, open Mon- Fri 12pm-2.30pm. £5 for soup and short bread. Choice of 3 soups. This includes £1 to Soul Kitchen. Creating a positive future for those experiencing homelessness and hardship.
