PETER’S PENCE:
There will be a second collection for Peter’s Pense this weekend. In 1871, Pope Pius IX formalized the practice of lay members of the church and “other persons of good will” providing financial support to the Roman See. Modern “Peter’s Pence” proceeds are used by the Pope for philanthropic works throughout the world and for administrative costs of the Vatican state. Please place donations in the baskets provided in porches.

CONFIRMATION ENROLEMENT:
A warm welcome to the Confirmation candidates and their families who will be enrolling at St. Columba’s this weekend. Please pray for all young people in Chester who are preparing to be Confirmed at St.Columba’s next November.
AN EVENING WITH SINFONIA:
SINFONIA is a local group of musicians who use St. Columba’s Church Hall for rehearsals. They have again invited the Parish to join them on Friday 5th July at 7pm for their “end of term” party. ST COLUMBA’S 60th ANNIVERSARY:
This will be in September. This is an opportunity to update the archives with events that have happened in the past 60 years. If anyone has any pictures/newspaper items/memorabilia relating to the Parish during this time, it would be very helpful. FISH AND CHIP BABIES:
The number of items sent off to Africa is now approaching 900. These include jumpers, hats, scarves blankets and knitted bags. The churches involved include Holy Ascension, St Columba’s, St Theresa’s St Clare’s, Upton URC, St Werburgh’s and now Caldy Valley Church. Many thanks to those of you who have been knitting. CAFOD and SVP “Catholic Call for Action at the General Election”:
As reported in the newsletter on the 16th June we emailed the 5 candidates standing for election in the “Chester North and Neston constituency” asking for their views on the 3 issues which came out as the main priorities “The Cost of Living Crisis”, “Climate” and “Aid and International Development”. The replies will be posted on the Parish website and a copy will be on the Church noticeboard.
FREE WARTIME BIOGRAPHIES:
A lady from St Werburgh’s Church visited St.Columba’s. She brought in a book called “We Shall Remember Them” – Biographies of men associated with St. Werburgh’s Church” Apparently there is a misprint in them and are being given away for free.
