SYNOD 2021 – 2024:
In Rome, from 4-29 October, bishops, priests, religious and lay people will be asked to consider a series of questions as part of the global synod process. The document for discussion will consider how women can better participate in “governance, decision–making, mission and ministries at all levels of the church.” Pope Francis has ruled that, for the first time, women will take part in the assembly as voting members. Questions to be considered include the ordination of married men, greater acceptance of LGBTQ+ Catholics, a reform of governance, the selection of bishops and lay leadership. These are all issues which emerged from last year’s consultation process in which our parish played its part. Pauline Rourke

SYNOD 2021-2024 Communion Participation Mission An earlier posting of this monthly Synod News item announced approval, by the General Secretariat of the Synod, of the Instrumentum Laboris (IL), the working document for the participants in the October 2023 session of the Synod. The IL can now be downloaded at:www.synod.va/Synodal Process/Universal Phase/Documents The Foreword of the IL includes the following: The Members of the Synod Assembly are the primary recipients of the IL, which is also made public not only for reasons of transparency but as a contribution to the implementation of ecclesial initiatives. In particular, it can encourage participation in the synodal dynamic at the local and regional levels, while waiting for the outcome of the October Assembly. This will provide further material on which the local Churches will be called to pray, reflect, act and make their own contribution. The IL is a long read but even a short look could help us understand the Synodal process a little more. Please continue to pray for the Synod and for our participation, walking together along the way, united in Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life. https://sscolumbaandtheresa.co.uk/prayer-for-the-synod/ |

Thought for the week With World Youth Day taking place in Portugal 1-6 August, the Pope compared the event to a very special “World Cup,” a friendly match “where there are no winners or losers, but we all win.” He highlighted how “when we step out of ourselves and meet others,” giving what we have and being open to receive what others offer, “we are all winners and we can raise together the ‘cup of brotherhood.”
Resources summer holiday activities with spaces and with food offer can be found at the following link https://edsential.com/haf/
Asda has confirmed it will be running its popular £1 kid’s meal scheme throughout the summer holidays across all of its 205 cafes. No adult minimum spend. Warburton’s ‘Ask for Ellen’ initiative: “Everyone and anyone, both adults and children, can ‘Ask for Ellen’ at any Morrisons Café to receive two toasted crumpets, with butter and jam for free – no questions asked. Offer runs between 17 July and 13 August.
We’re all in this together: Face to face communication is very important; we know that during covid we missed that intimacy. We could have phone calls but couldn’t always see the other person. Have you ever thought how and what communication is? In face-to-face communication, some 55% is non-verbal like your body language, facial expressions etc, 38% is your vocal tone and inflection and only 7% are the words! So up to 93% of communication does not involve what you actually say. Maybe it’s a bit like God speaking to us each day. Communication may be via the world around us, the flora and fauna; those people around us, kind gestures or the words of the bible?
RCIA:
ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO…
- Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic?
- Wants to learn more about the Catholic faith?
- Was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist?
We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. You are welcome to participate in the process with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a warm accepting setting. For information please contact Fr. William or Fr.
