OAKS SCHOOL, BO, SIERRA LEONE
In 2003 Margaret Jarrett bought a plot of land in Bo, Sierra Leone and her vision was to build a school for children who were orphaned by the civil war. The OAKS charity was born, the school was built and today that school educates and looks after the health needs of 745 children. Margaret lives locally and has just been awarded a very well deserved MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List for her years of dedication, hard work and fund raising.
We warmly congratulate her and continue to support the charity as our Parish Third World Project. Any donations are welcome and can be put in the wall boxes in either porch. For further information please go to oaks-sl.org.
RNLI COLLECTIONS:
Hello, my name is Frances Hughes and I am the new Collections Coordinator for the Chester branch of the RNLI. The RNLI is celebrating its 200th anniversary and would not have survived, as a charity, without volunteers. I am hoping to hold charity collections every few months and would like more volunteers. If you have some free time at weekends, between 1-2 hours, or would like to know more please email me at frances.douglas2@btinternet.com. There is no set commitment and a huge amount of flexibility. Thank you.

ST COLUMBA’S & ST THERESA’S SVP ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2023/24:
Our income for 2023/24 was £1636 which came from Member and non member donations, raffle income, coffee mornings and other fund raising events. Our expenditure was £1647 which was spent giving assistance to Families, Refugees and Asylum seekers, support payments to SVP, support for the SVP holiday home, and overseas support through the twinnage scheme. During the year we continued to visit the elderly in their own homes, residential care or hospital. Also, we have been able to support, practically and financially, many members of our community on the fringes of society who are in need. The SVP have also organised and delivered the Foodbank collections on behalf of our parish. We have provided 2 families with a holiday. With the help from our parish youth group we have been able to provide parish outreach work, particularly at Christmas and Easter, by delivering gift parcels to our more isolated parishioners. Thank you for all your support over the year and if you would like to consider joining the SVP please contact either Sue McCarthy or Mark Traynor.
ST COLUMBA’S 60th ANNIVERSARY:
This will be in September. This is an opportunity to update the archives with events that have happened in the past 60 years. If anyone has any pictures/newspaper items/memorabilia relating to the Parish during this time, it would be very helpful. Items can either be handed in to Parish Office or left in Sacristy for my attention. Please include your contact details. Thanks Sue Carr, Tel: 07553 114531.
