POPES PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR JULY:
For the pastoral care of the sick- Let us pray that the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick grant the Lord’s strength to those who receive it and to their loved ones, and that it may become for everyone an ever more visible sign of compassion and hope.

RECENTLY DECEASED:
Please remember in your prayers Frank Brady and Louise Marie Sale. May the Lord console their families and friends.
Frank Brady’s Funeral will take place at St. Columba’s on Thursday 8th August at 10.00 a.m.
Louise Sale’s funeral service is on Tuesday 30th July at 12 noon at Blacon Crematorium.

There will be Confessions after each weekday Mass until 11.30a.m.
St Columba’s: From 6p.m. before the 6.30p.m. Saturday evening Mass.
St Theresa’s: From 4.30p.m. before 5p.m. Saturday evening Mass.

  • Upton Amblers, Walkers Group, Trekkers and all who meet together for outdoor pursuits.

BLESSING OF THE PEACE GARDEN:
A big thank you to all who came along to this last week and who helped in any way.  The Peace Garden is an asset for all of the parish to use.

FR DESMOND WILSON CUSP:
Our assistant parish priest Fr Desmond Wilson CSSP will be leaving at the end of August. We thank him for his services to our parish and we wish him well in his next assignment. If anyone would like to give a donation to Fr Desmond please put it in the envelope marked ‘Fr Desmond’ and place it in the offertory basket.  Thank you.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA):
It is proposed to reconvene the parish RCIA group in September. If you are thinking about seeking to become a Roman Catholic, or  to be received into in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church, and would like to join the group to look into this, please contact Fr William or Deacon Lawrence for further details.

ST COLUMBA’S COFFEE ROTA
The coffee rota is on the noticeboard in St Columba’s Hall. Please enter your name and good cause against your preferred dates. You could make £30-£50 for your chosen cause.

RED MISSION BOXES, ST COLUMBA’S
If you are a red Missio box holder, please leave your box in the sacristy for counting and pick up your emptied box, with your name on, from the table in the rear porch of St Columba’s.

ANNUAL COACH TRIP TO LICHFIELD 2024
If you would like to go to Lichfield for the day for just £15.00, please enter your name on the list in the front porch of your church. Thurs 25th July, leaving St Cs at 9:00am, St Ts 9:15am, more info on posters.

PARISH ADMINISRATOR ST COLUMBA’S:
We are very pleased to welcome Magdalena Bukowska to this post. She will work alongside Carol Galvin from Monday 15 July until Wednesday 31 July when Carol retires and Magdalena will assume full responsibility.  Pauline Rourke

Our parish website is being developed to include more photos and news from both churches. There will be a complete renewal of information about the parish and information which it is hoped will be helpful. Please do check it out. There is an email address on the site for any comments you may have.

If you are NEW TO THE PARISH, you will find a new Parish Registration Form to be completed and sent to either parish office to let us know that you are here and enable us to welcome you to the parish. The form can be completed and submitted online or downloaded and printed out. Instructions are on the form, which can also be found in the front porches of both churches. You will find it on the Our Parish tab, under Welcome (side option Welcome).

RESOURCES:
Zoo youth network – 3 August 11-14.00, free event for 16-25 year olds who are passionate about wildlife, explore the zoo and take part in conservation activities. Booking essential. www.chesterzoo.org/events/youth-network-social-event 

Foodbank needs – you can download a free app for your mobile phone or computer which shows you what your local foodbank needs urgently, the app is ‘bankthefood’. Food currently needed in West Cheshire is coffee, cup a soup, long life juice, rice, tinned meat meals, tinned puddings, tinned tomatoes. 

ST COLUMBA’S 60TH ANNIVERSARY:
This will be in September. This is an opportunity to update the archives with events that have happened in the past 60 years.   If anyone has any pictures/newspaper items/memorabilia relating to the Parish during this time, it would be very helpful.   Items can either be handed in to Parish Office or left in Sacristy for my attention.  Please include your contact details. FREE WARTIME BIOGRAPHIES:
A lady from St Werburgh’s Church visited St. Columba’s. She brought in a book called “We Shall Remember Them” – Biographies of men associated with St. Werburgh’s Church” Apparently there is a misprint in them and are being given away for free. For details contact Annmarie Curtis 01244 851717. Copy in St. Columba’s front porch.

NEEDLES & PINS – Wed 24 JULY:
Everyone is invited to this friendly and welcoming needlecraft group in the Newman Room, between 2:00-4:00pm every fourth Wednesday of the month. Hope to see you.

FISH N CHIP BABIES:
The latest progress report on this activity is displayed on the Notice Board at St. Columba’s.

FOURTH WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY – 28 JULY:
We will celebrate this day in honour of all grandparents and elderly members of our congregation next week.  This is the closest Sunday to the feast of St Anne and St Joachim, which we celebrate the Friday before on the 26th of July 2024. Pope Francis has written a message especially for this occasion and the Diocese has created a booklet that includes his message and the prayer prepared for the day.Please pick up the booklet and prayer cards from the back of the Church and you will find other resources on the Diocesan website.

LOURDES BY JUMBULANCE:
The Chester Across Group are going to Lourdes by Jumbulance from Thursday 15th to Saturday 24th August. We travel overland in an adapted coach, which has seven beds on board. Therefore, we can take some sick or disabled pilgrims and so far we have a Doctor and two nurses and several helpers. However, we need two more helpers and there is a place for someone who is sick or disabled. The cost is £1,095 but help with costs is available. Current Passport required. Travel Insurance is available for just £65.
