SYNOD 2021 – 2024:
In Rome, from 4-29 October, bishops, priests, religious and lay people will be asked to consider a series of questions as part of the global synod process. The document for discussion will consider how women can better participate in “governance, decision–making, mission and ministries at all levels of the church.” Pope Francis has ruled that, for the first time, women will take part in the assembly as voting members. Questions to be considered include the ordination of married men, greater acceptance of LGBTQ+ Catholics, a reform of governance, the selection of bishops and lay leadership. These are all issues which emerged from last year’s consultation process in which our parish played its part. Pauline Rourke
RCIA:
ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO…
- Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic?
- Wants to learn more about the Catholic faith?
- Was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist?
We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. You are welcome to participate in the process with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a warm accepting setting. For information please contact Fr. William or Fr. Desmond who will put you in touch with the RCIA team
ST COLUMBA’S CHURCH HALL:
The boiler in the hall is close to final expiry so a new one is about to be fitted and the heating system overhauled. It should make the hall warmer in the winter and more economical to heat. Preliminary work for the installation will start on Friday 18 August and continue into the following week. It is hoped that disturbance to activities in the hall will be kept to a minimum. The work will be finished in mid September. Pauline Rourke

The Diocese is looking to appoint a Welfare Officer. The role is for 3 days per week. Salary: £38 – £42K FTE pro rata depending on experience. For further details of the role and application form, please see the Diocesan website: https://www.dioceseofshrewsbury.org/latest-vacancies/ Completed application should be sent to Pauline McCulloch recuitment@dioceseofshrewsbury.org Closing date 25 August 2023.

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER:
The Pope and Youth talking at the World Youth Day in Lisbon, the Youth only seeing “old people” in church. They then ask, “Is the Church only for old people?” The Pope replied, “The Church is not an old people’s club any more than it is a youth club.” He added: “If it becomes something for old people, it will die.” He then references Pope St. John Paul II, who said: “If you live with young people, you become young yourself.” Our Parish needs our Youth, they will be our community’s future. We learnt through our synod parish meetings and feedback that families and young people were really important to the parish. We have plenty of opportunities to volunteer with our families and younger members of the community. If you are interested, let the Church secretaries know and someone will be in touch.
